i think many of us are not putting 100% of hard work.
i think that we really have the potential but just we're too lazy. ok, i can understand that long band practices can really make people very tired but i just hope that there will be lesser mistakes as now, the mistakes are:
- Dynamics, nobody is following.
- Never breath in enough, this will lead to many problems. eg: not able to sustain your note.
- SUSTAIN YOUR NOTE! FULL VALUE! ok. i can't say that we're perfect. we all make this kind of mistakes but after a few practices, i think we will be able to sustain it to the full value.
- Not paying attention when Mr Lun is talking. some seniors, i'll not say who it is, complained that a clarinetist, always talking and when MR Lun is talking, this person will still talk and talk. sometimes when the instrument is up, this person will still be talking and the instrument of that particular person will still be somewhere instead of holding it, mouthpiece at your lips. the next time i see people talking while Mr Lun is talking or when the instrument is up, i won't hesitate to embarrass you in front of the band.
-Sectionals.
next time, for each 1hr30mins sectionals, i'll only give 10 mins of break time. i think sometimes the break i give u is too long. and everyone after your come back from break, you won't fell like practicing anymore. i wont blame you for this. but i really hope that we'll still practice. not sitting there, chit chatting. maybe next time, for real long sectionals, i'll give longer break and den your can chit chat. if not chit chat during sectionals is a no no.
-Break time.
nobody is to come back late.
-Playing other scores.
this is not really a problem among the clarinetist. (:
-Playing scores of other stands. during sectionals.
i think that during sectionals, you should only practice your own parts. if you're from 1st, u don't play 3rd or 2nd's scores. UNLESS, u can tell me that you can play the whole piece w/o any mistakes, Perfect. if not you don't come and ask me. i'll just ignore you and continue practicing my parts.
- Every part is IMPORTANT.
i heard from some clarinetist saying that they think that their parts are quite boring as there's not much melody or something. ok, every part is IMPORTANT! even a holding note is important! it may change the mood of the piece! in band, no bass, melody can't be nice. no melody, the bass itself will also not sound nice. i think people who look down on people who play the bass are really useless. some people only think that melody is nicer or saying that bass is just boring. Bass is NOT boring. somehow i think bass is more challenging as if u don't come in at the right time or end late, it will really affect the mood of the piece.
i hope that this will make us realise our mistakes. Work hard k?
